Auto Insurance Checklist Revisited

Below, we revisit some of the pointers to look out for when deciding on an auto insurance policy :

  1. Determine your state's minimum car insurance requirements.
  2. Consider your own financial situation in relation to the required car insurance and consider buying more to protect yourself and your vehicle.
  3. Review the status of your driving record — do you have any outstanding tickets or points on your driver license?
  4. Make follow-up phone calls to insurance companies to get additional information about the various car insurance coverage.
  5. Inquire about discounts you might qualify for such as a multiple policy discount.
  6. Evaluate the reliability of the auto insurance company you're considering by visiting your state's insurance Web site.
  7. Check your current coverage to find out how much in premiums you are paying.
  8. Get competing quotes from an Internet insurance Web site such as InsWeb.com, YouDecide.com etc.
  9. If you have chosen a new insurance company, remember to cancel your old policy.
Remember to practise due diligence. Save as much as you can by getting a competitive quote but ensure you are comfortable with it and if you can afford it, try to go for a higher insurance coverage rather than just the state minimum.
