Auto Insurance Blog

Hello fellow readers of my Auto Insurance World blog ! How's this year treating you so far ?

How's your day or week ? Good ? Bad ? So so ? Got something to unload from your chest ?

Enjoying your life or busy with work ? LOL gets pretty mad and wild these days.

So anyone here has any interesting tips, news, advice, suggestions on all matters regarding auto insurance, getting quotes online and recommendations on a reputable insurance provider ?

Or you simply want to get something off your chest regarding lousy service from your current insurance company ? Or simply want to share about something ?

Whatever the case may be, I welcome all emails, feedback and suggestions that concerns my subject matter of my personal blog :)

May i remind you here again, that if you want to drive a vehicle on the road, car insurance is mandatory. Do not be caught in an unfortunate situation where you get involved in an auto accident (god forbid) and then are not covered by any auto insurance.

Though there is a minimum state requirement on the vehicle insurance coverage, you should also consider if you can afford a better package. Under-insuring your vehicle can also bring about great inconvenience, not to mention financial loss ! Of course, subject to your budget, that is.

Get assistance via Google search or simply Bing it ~ or use any search engine and you will be able to find plenty !

So stay prudent and not take your car insurance lightly ! Otherwise, simply stay off the busy roads ! Let's be safe, not sorry ! And yeah, do come back for more of my posts and my personal yaks !

Again : What Is Auto Insurance ?

If by now you still have no idea what an auto insurance coverage is all about, let me briefly run it through again.

In bried, auto or car insurance protects you against financial loss if you are involved in an accident. It is a contract between you and the insurance company. You agree to pay the premium and the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as defined in your policy. Auto insurance provides property, liability and medical coverage :

  • Property coverage pays for damage to or theft of your vehicle.
  • Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses.
  • Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage.
An auto insurance policy is comprised of six different kinds of coverage. Most states require you to buy some, but not all, of these coverages. If you're financing a car, your lender may also have certain requirements.

Most car policies are for six months to a year. Your insurance company should notify you by mail when it’s time to renew the policy and to pay your premium.

I hope this provides you with a better understanding of what an auto insurance and what it covers. For more details, please feel free to browse throught my blog.

Points to Note When Choosing An Insurance Company For Your Needs

There are many insurance companies out there, hence choosing amongst them can be a real challenge. Here are the main points to keep in mind when selecting an insurance company for your auto insurance and any other general coverage needs :

1. Financial Solidity
You buy insurance to protect you financially and provide peace of mind. Therefore, you should aim to select a company that is likely to be financially sound for many years, by using ratings from independent rating agencies.

2. Licensing
Another consideration is the licensing. Not every insurance company is licensed to operate in each state. As a general rule, you should buy from a company licensed in your state, because you will be able to rely on your state insurance department to help if there’s any issue. To find out which companies are licensed in your state, contact your local state insurance department.

3. Service
Your insurance company and its representatives should answer your questions and handle your claims fairly, efficiently and effectively. You can get a feel for whether this is the case by talking to other customers who have used a particular company or agent.

You may also want to check a national claims database to see what complaint information it has on a company. Also, your state insurance department will be able to tell you if the insurance company you are considering had many consumer complaints about its service relative to the number of policies it sold.

4. Comfort
You should feel comfortable with your insurance purchase, whether you buy it from a local agent, broker, directly from the company over the phone, or over the Internet. Make sure that the agent or company will be easy to reach if you have a question or need to file a claim, if any.

5. Price
Many companies sell insurance policies and prices vary greatly from one to another, so it really pays to shop around. Get at least three different price quotes from companies, agents and from the Internet. Your state insurance department may publish a guide that shows what insurers charge for different policies in various parts of your state.

My Car Got Scratched and I Cannot Claim for the Touch Up

Totally unforgiveable.

I was so prepared to give my car a good clean up before the festive season.

When at the carpark, I had to do a double take on the bonnet. There was a 4cm scratch !

Driving me nuts 'cos I can't go to my car insurance company to make this claim of a new paint job on the bonnet.

What a day this has turned out to be.

Still feeling sour over it as well as some other private matters that seem to crop up at the same time.

Hilarious Nationwide Auto Insurance Commercial

As I was going through Youtube, I came across a funny auto insurance commercial video ad by Nationwide Auto Insurance.

It is hilarious, but it brings across the message in a light hearted manner that you have to remember to insure your car against all types of unforeseen circumstances. You never know what will happen at any one time.

Thought I would share it with all of you for a laugh.

Getting My Van Insured

For a couple of weeks I’ve been looking around for cheap car insurance online. It’s really hard to find the best rate for us especially when I am saving money for other things . . .

Fortunately we found the best one and finally we got our new family van insured.

Now I’m thinking about our kid’s future and that’s why I’m considering an endownment policy too. The agent said that I can do an endownment quote online the same way as the auto insurance. You can actually get 5% off by doing it online as opposed to getting a quote in person.

This is really great when you don’t have time to go out that often.

Who Says You Cannot Lower Your Car Insurance Premiums ?

So who says you cannot lower your insurance premiums ?

Before renewing, go hunt around for alternative quotes, then go to your current agent. Simply ask him for a better rate, else, you will switch :)

It's that simple !

And I end up getting an auto insurance premium even lower than the lowest alternative quote I got :)

Do your search, and save whatever you can, all conditions being equal that is. Every penny you save, you can use it on other stuff or even to treat yourself to a good meal :)

Remember, you still should not compromise on anything though. Do not remove any riders or any previous add-ons just because you want to lower the premium.

Cheerios !

Nearly Couldn't Find My Car Keys

Another hectic day at work.

Then when I was at the parking lot, I realised my car keys were not in my pocket.

Then I had to look thru the car window to ensure I did not lock the keys in my car by mistake. Nearly panicked as that had happened to me before and I had to call my dad to bring the spare key to me. That would have taken him an hour at least to reach my work place.

So it was not in the car. Ran back to the office and searched high and low for it.

Luckily, it was buried underneath a pile of documents. How careless can I be :) LOL As long as I did not lock it in my car, I am relieved, I thought.

Anyways, back to home for a good meal and to add more posts to my auto insurance world blog :)

I am a Car Lover

I love cars.

Esp. the Japanese made models from Nissan and Toyota :)

Got myself a Nissan March. Small, compact, fuel efficient and just nice for me in this high cost affluent society. Of course, given a choice, I would take in a bigger cc model any time :)

Anyways, this is just some small idle talk to break the ice.

Do keep on coming back for more on autos, insurance and loans :)

Other Auto Insurance Considerations

These car insurance policy considerations may seem minor, but being aware of them may save you time and money.

When Moving From One State to Another

If a job change or circumstance requires you to move from one state to another, you'll likely have to revise your auto insurance.

Forget the notion that you are going to start over in a new spot with a new car insurance company and leave behind a troubled driving record. In this era, any company will likely turn up your record from the Department of Motor Vehicles in your former state.

Insurance Add-Ons

Your auto insurance agent or direct-sales company is likely to offer other small add-ons. Rental-car reimbursement may be worth it if you have just one vehicle. If your family has more than one, you may be able to skip paying for this car insurance coverage. Likewise, roadside-towing insurance is unnecessary if you already belong to the American Automobile Association or some other auto club.

Insurance for Leased Cars

If you are leasing a car or plan to lease, be sure you have gap insurance. This covers you if your car is totaled and the leasing company demands more of a payback than what your auto insurer is willing to pay. The best time to get such insurance, by far, is when you initially lease the car. Most major leasing companies and automakers finance subsidiaries, such as General Motors Acceptance Corp., offer such car insurance as part of their leases.

No-Fault Insurance

Moving from a conventional insurance state to one with no-fault insurance could mean sizable changes in your policy. When adopted in the early 1970s, no-fault laws were intended to sharply reduce the number of lawsuits, and thus reduce auto insurance premiums. It hasn't worked out as intended. Many no-fault states have car insurance rates just as high as conventional states' rates.

States with no-fault insurance include the following :

* Florida
* New Jersey
* New York
* North Dakota
* Pennsylvania
* Utah
* Kentucky
* Massachusetts
* Michigan
* Hawaii
* Kansas
* Minnesota

With no-fault policies, damages aren't collected from the at-fault driver's auto insurance company. So each motorist must carry personal injury protection to pay individual medical expenses and lost wages. Even if an accident involved an out-of-state driver from a conventional insurance state, the PIP provision in the home-state motorist's policy probably would kick in to cover any injuries.

Other Considerations

Here are some factors you may not have considered that could affect what you pay for car insurance.

How can my spouse, significant other or business partner affect my auto insurance rates ?
If someone listed as a regular or occasional driver on your car insurance policy has a poor driving record, it will push up premiums. Sometimes, just having a roommate with a poor record who turns up as an address match in the computer can push your auto insurance rates up even if you never loan out your car.

Is it me or my car that's insured ?
You carry your car insurance policy with you when, for example, you rent cars — provided your coverage includes collision. If so, refuse the offer from the rental company of the expensive add-on collision coverage.

Does the auto insurance company pay me directly if I file a claim ?
That really depends on the company and the claim. If your car needs body work, the insurer might pay the body shop directly — especially if the company has a preferred network of shops. If your car is totaled, you are more likely to get a check directly.

What if a friend borrows my car and gets into an accident ?
If he or she isn't listed on your car insurance policy and gets into an accident with your car, your insurance carrier may consider this so-called permissive use and cover the damage. However, you should ask your auto insurance agent about this before lending someone your car keys.

If you come across car insurance considerations and would like to get it noted, please feel free to drop a comment note.

Concept of Insurance

Welcome to Auto Insurance World blog which covers mainly information on car insurance news, tips, options and advice.

To kick off this blog, let's talk a bit for a moment on the concept of insurance.

The most fundamental concept of insurance is to provide "shelter" to a property (vehicle, house etc) , things and the human life against all expected losses. The procedure of insuring something may be complex in nature but the basic concept revolves around proper risk management.

Basically, the insurance contract is signed between two parties, the insurer and the insured. The insurance company is known as the insurer as it provides safety shelter to the insured against a premium sum of money, decided between both parties.

There is always a possible likelihood of loss to our precious things due to an unfortunate incidentor event, which we may be unable to avoid. It also includes human life, which is beyond all doubts, the most precious thing. Such occurrence causes us huge loss and may even be almost unbearable for us. In these situations, insurance seems to be a highly profitable and supporting way to mitigate the intensity of our calamity.

Though insurance does not claim for the total recovery of such losses but it does prove to be a blessing in avoiding big losses and help us maintain ourselves after what we have faced. On account of so many advantages of insurance, it is no wonder why the practice is very common in all countries. It can be said that over the years, insurance has made a tremendous progress throughout the world.

Insurance companies have created maximum possibilities of risk management with regards to all the precious property we hold dear to, the loss of which may have a devastating effect on us. In most developed countries, it is often necessary to have life insurance to cover the risks to human life. Already, developed countries would have in place, the minimum government policies and basic social benefits that will help in medical subsidies. That said, it is also compulsory to buy auto insurance before you can drive a vehicle on the road and there are minimum requirements depending on your location.

Hence, regarding expensive property such as vehicles, homes, jewellery etc, insurance provides some sort of security to them as a mishap will not cause them a heavy damage. Against a small insurance premium, to be paid monthly, quarterly or annually, you can ensure maximum security of your life and valuable belongings/property.

This essentially is the fundamental concept of insurance.
